Immersive Culinary Activation at the Intrepid Museum for Eurest & Taste and Savor Events

Event Fab partnered with Eurest and their experiential team, Taste and Savor Events, to deliver a highly curated culinary activation inside one of New York City’s most iconic landmarks — the Intrepid Museum. This immersive build blended modern design, custom structures, refined furniture, and interactive food experiences to elevate the historic aircraft carrier into a sophisticated culinary showcase.

From dual-tone scenic structures to bespoke seating, custom tasting tables, greenery-forward décor, and intentional lighting design, we transformed the deck and interior of the Intrepid into an elegant environment supporting Taste and Savor’s gourmet experience. The result was a polished, atmospheric activation that married innovation, event design, and culinary artistry.

Transforming a Historic Vessel into a Modern Culinary Experience

The Intrepid Museum — a decommissioned aircraft carrier — offers one of the most unique event backdrops in New York City. Its industrial steel surfaces, massive scale, and history demanded a creative approach to design that both respected the setting and elevated it for a premium tasting event.

Taste and Savor Events approached us with a vision: create a refined, immersive culinary environment that blended modern aesthetics with the museum’s iconic architecture. Our task was to develop custom scenic pieces, build bespoke furniture, integrate lighting, and design a cohesive environment that supported both guest flow and chef interaction.

The final experience needed to feel elevated yet welcoming, structured yet intimate, and visually striking without distracting from the culinary artistry — a balance our team delivered through thoughtful design and precision fabrication.

What We Designed & Delivered

Event Fab produced a full suite of scenic, structural, and environmental elements tailored specifically to the Intrepid’s architecture and the event’s culinary focus.

Project Highlights Included:

  • A custom dual-tone scenic structure featuring bold black and white elements

  • Bespoke furniture fabrication, including white leather seating and tasting tables

  • Lush greenery and floral accents to soften the industrial environment

  • Warm, atmospheric lighting, including exposed-filament hanging bulbs

  • Thoughtful spatial planning to support smooth tasting station flow

  • Scenic elements designed to feel modern while complementing the ship’s architecture

  • Close collaboration with Taste and Savor Events to align design with culinary needs

Each element contributed to a cohesive environment where guests could savor, explore, and engage seamlessly.

Behind the Build

Creating an immersive culinary environment inside the Intrepid Museum required problem-solving, precision, and adaptability. Our team began by evaluating the ship’s structural layout — the metal flooring, limited rigging opportunities, guest flow patterns, and existing lighting conditions. We developed a dual-tone scenic structure that could be securely installed while acting as a visual anchor for the activation. Bespoke leather seating and tasting tables were fabricated to match the event’s refined aesthetic and functional needs.

During installation, we coordinated closely with venue operations and Taste and Savor’s culinary team to ensure that scenic placement enhanced the tasting experience rather than obstructing it. Every detail — from floral positioning to lighting angles — was refined on-site to create an environment that felt both modern and warm. The end result was a seamless transformation of a historic vessel into a polished, experiential culinary landscape.

The Final Experience

Elevated. Immersive. Refined.

Planning & Pre-Production

The planning process included site assessments, structural evaluations, scenic mockups, lighting studies, and furniture design renderings. We worked with the Taste and Savor team to review chef station requirements, tasting table heights, guest movement patterns, and overall spatial design.

Pre-production involved fabricating custom scenic elements, preparing all furniture, sourcing greenery and florals, testing lighting fixtures, and mapping out installation logistics specific to the Intrepid. On event day, our team executed a seamless install that transformed the deck into a modern culinary pavilion — polished, functional, and atmospheric.
